Experiences related to Fuel Accounting and Automatic Dispensing of Fuel

1. In 1986, I participated in a workgroup that specified and designed a fuel (gasoline and diesel) dispensing control system for the Panama Canalīs Motor Transportation Division (MTD) located in Ancoacute;n, Panama. The PetroVend system monitors alarms, Gilbarco fuel pumps, flows in pipes and hoses, and tank levels. Also, the system produces computerized accounting reports, and only allows pumping to authorized personnel and vehicles with electronic keys.

2. In 1987, I participated in a similar workgroup that repeated the above for similar facilities in Gamboa and Mt. Hope. Such systems have a data link with Ancón for remote monitoring.

3. In 1994, I participated in a similar workgroup that repeated the above for similar Marine Bureau facilities of the Panama Canal Commission. Such systems also have data links with the Pacific side for remote monitoring.

4. In 1997, I was involved in a workgroup to study the replacement of MTD systems described in paragraphs 1 and 2 above, to get other electronic systems of enhanced functionality and reliability.
